For dedicated (and not so dedicated) traditional music lovers, Willie Week is a definite on the musician’s calendar every year in early July. Staged in Miltown Malbay, a small town hidden between Lehinch and Spanish Point, the County Clare town’s pubs, streets and campsites jump into multicoloured life for the annual event.
Daily master classes, nightly seisuins and ceillis engaged in with vigour by scholars, onlookers and master musicians alike over the past four decades.
And if the sun shines, there is always the chance to breakaway for some kayaking, swimming, snorkeling or swimming with the odd dolphin at White Strand just outside the town or more adventurous surf on the Spanish Point waves a few miles along the coast.
Nearby hotels include Moy House, Dromoland Castle and The Lodge at Doonbeg.
