So the name comes from the song, the Rose of Tralee and it was written by a wealthy protestant about the servant that his parents had and he fell in love with.
Her name was Mary and apparently she was lovely and fair and that’s important because the women at this competition , they’re not just pretty faces. They’re actually judged on their personality too. So a lot of them have really fantastic jobs, like therapists, nurses,. One girl has a PHD in physics. They’re also from many different countries.
