Video: Kilmainham Gaol

So here we are outside Kilmainham gaol in Dublin where many an Irish rebel from the 1916 rising spent a dark and dreary night.

Famous prisoners included Parnell, De Valera and Countess Markeviecz. De Valera himself actually came back to the gaol to give a speech as President when he’d been here as a prisoner once upon a time. The gaol has featured in such films as Michael Collins, In the Name of the Father and the original Italian Job.
