Looks like it’s all happening at the Steeple Sessions this summer in Dublin with the city awash with music throughout June, July and August and in the glow of romantic candlelight!
Lumiere feature in June, as well as Fiddle and Bouzouki player Mick Conneely, Solas at the end of the month, De Danann’s original box player early July, a Florida fiddler followed by the Lovely Girls, Irish and Scottish harp and songs, a change of pace with We Banjo 3 upping the tempo mid July with ragtime, bluegrass, toe tapping tunes.
Mid month the Bothy band makes a Gathering inspired appearance, while the Unwanted will be much in demand mid month. Musical brothers, fathers and daughters take the stage during July to delight audiences with a string of fiddle tunes and more. The Scots put in an appearance at the end of the month while the Voice Squad promise to take you back with their harmonies of yesteryear in early August.
The John Carty Festival Band, the Kanes, Mary, Kevin & Caitriona Rowsome, Mick O’ Brien and family all make an appearance in August with some Chicago based whistler and a bit of flute playing closing the curtain at the end of August on a high note.
A feast for the mind, body and soul.
Of course if you feel like banging your own drum, look no further than the Thursday night Bodhran Experience sessions taking place from June to December out in Monkstown, Co. Dublin
And for a show with a difference check out the Belvedere Irish Nights this July when you can savour Irish music, dance and food (maybe in a different order with all that hopping around)
The Longitude Music Festivals takes place in Rathfarnham Co Dublin mid July in Marlay Park, while at the opposite end of the spectrum the World Choral Fest features on July 28th in the city.
And for something completely different, just bring along your ukulele and enjoy the Hooley by the Sea out in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin at the end of August. Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
