October Concerts in Ireland

Newton Faulkner is known for his unique style of guitar playing where he taps and hits his guitar’s body. Faulkner playes the Olympia this October.

Owl City is an American electronica musical project by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young formed in 2007 in Owatonna, Minnesota. Young created the project while experimenting with music in his parents’ basement. After two independent releases, Owl City gained mainstream popularity with the 2009 major label debut album Ocean Eyes, which included the quadruple-platinum hit single “Fireflies”. Owl City perform in Whelans this October.

The Civil Wars is a group composed of singer-songwriters Joy Williams and John Paul White. The two met during a Nashville, Tennessee songwriting session in 2008. After releasing a live performance album and a four song EP, their full length album, Barton Hollow, was released in 2011. The band won the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Folk Album in 2012. They perform at the Oympia this month.

Scissor Sisters are an American band formed in 2001. “Spawned by the scuzzy, gay nightlife scene of New York,” the band took their name from a sexual position between two women also known as tribadism.  Scissor Sisters have incorporated diverse and innovative styles in their music, but tend to sway towards pop rock, glam rock, nu-disco, and electroclash. They are also performing at the Olympia Theatre in October.

The Galway Jazz Festival presents a weekend of leading local, national and international jazz artists in a broad range of venues, throughout Galway City. Annually, the aim is to foster jazz as a contemporary art form in the West. Jazz admirers will have plenty to choose from in a line up that includes artists from Norway, The US, Germany, The UK and Italy and the best of Irish artists. Venues include The Crane Bar, Druid Theatre and St Nicholas’ Church. Takes place in October.
