Keep those cold feet warm and clap those hands with the people of west Kerry again this year as they hold the first of their Spring festivals at Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh trad fest.
Check out this lively event and nearby hotels Kerry has to offer.
The festival will be held from February 19th to 23rd in the Kerry Gaeltacht nestled on the magestic Dingle Peninsula. Master of ceremonies will be none other than Fear an Tí or indeed Bean an Ti. And there will be classes, Irish conversation groups and of course folk music from across Europe. Past years included Norwegian, Swedish, Estonian and Gallician musicians. There’s likely to be some guided walks, sean nós and random bouts of Set Dancing. Not sure if Peig Sayers will make an appearance. More information here.
Competing for your attention on the same weekend is the Killarney Gathering Traditional Festival from February 19th to 23rd. Concerts, ceillis, workshops and sessions. Sure you might be able to take in both events if you have the stamina. Check the programme of events here.
Later in February, the Comórtas Peile Páidi Ó Sé football festival takes place right in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way Route, across the West Kerry Peninsula. From February 21st to 23rd, the county sees hundreds of Gaelic footballers from across the world compete. More details here.
The Dingle International Film Festival takes place thsi St Patrick’s weekend. Featuring screenings, discussions, shorts at some great locations around the town. Better get your skates on though as some of the events have already sold out.
One screening that caught our eye from the wide programme was FUNGI 30 YEARS plus Q&A, narrated by John Hurt, featuring, Fungi and a cast of Fungi stunt dolphins (auditions were a little unorthodox) with photography by Cian de Buitlear (yes, son of Eamonn,so it must be good). The 60min film was shot in the autumn of 1990 when Fungi was only a shrimp.
