Hornpipes and tangos in Mayo

Tired of just letting your legs have all the fun as you keep your back straight during those marathon Irish dancing weekends this summer? Well over in Castlebar, the Mayomen are mixing it up with Irish and Latino music, song and dance and the musical exploits of Willie Brown. From July to September their show, The Admiral: His Life, His Legacy promises sea jigs, shanties and tangos.

Taking a more traditional route and keeping those arms strictly by your side, music and passion are always in fashion for all the family with plenty of music and dancing at the Shorelines evenings over in Westport

For tea and cake after a frenzied bout of reels, polkas and hornpipes, look no further than Cossmolina’s Country Ceili Cottage trad music and dance on the 24th of July.

Escape to island fever of a different sort every Tuesday during July and August to Clare Island where you can take part of just watch the Comhaltas Seisuns of traditional Music and Dance. Just don’t miss the last boat home.

After those tasters, if you feel the need to immerse yourself further into d’Irish, you can go back to the drawing board and the Scoil Acla summer school for traditional music, song, dance, creative writing, Irish language classes, and much more activities this August bank holiday weekend in Achill.
