We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars (Oscar Wilde)
Here we are in Merrion Square, just outside the childhood home of Dublin’s most famous writer, Oscar Wilde. In his own words, the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.
So here I am right beside the statue of Oscare Wilde, looking very smug indeed. To quote the man, I have nothing to declare except my genius.
No pen, no ink, no table, no room, no time, no quiet, no inclination. James Joyce
We’re right beside Swenys, the old lemon soap shop. You can see the lemon soap here in the window, visited by a character in Ulysees, written by James Joyce himself. And now they still have readings of Joyce’s work in this old soap shop which is now a book shop.
