Luxury hotels Kildare

Bop till you drop at Oxegen, lose your shirt at the Curragh, find some tranquility at the Japanese Gardens, test your driving skills at Mondello, shop till you drop at the Kildare village outlet, tee off before tea at the K Club and relax in style at historic 4 star luxury Carton House. Yes, it must be Kildare.

Oxegen is Ireland’s biggest music festival, held annually over a harum scarum four day jamboree at Punchestown Racecourse, playing host to over 80,000 happy campers and rockers every year. Not for the faint hearted and a contrast to the Secret Garden, which takes place in the grounds of Martinstown House amid much  storytelling and toasted marshmallows around bonfires, with the odd spot of yoga thrown in for good measure. Less spiritually but another form of therapy for some is the Kildare Village designer outlet shopping village featuring huge reductions on previous seasons’ collections from international luxury brands. Just the sort of gear you want to sport for a round or two or tea at the K Club. Located at Straffan and originally built in the 1830s on a site occupied from the sixth century, today the club is an exclusive hotel and golf club.

Competing for your love is 4 star Carton House, a beautifully restored historic mansion, with a rich and colourful past dating back to Norman times, today the hotel is one of the best luxury hotels in Ireland.

Life goes on at a totally different pace in Mondello Park, where you can exchange the golf cart for a pickup truck, GT and rallycross, karting or motorcycle, not all on the one day of course.

If your interests are more likely to have four legs than four wheels than the Curragh is a perfect flat open plain of 5,000 acres of common land on which to indulge your equine interests with racing, breeding and training (and that’s just the horses) part of the Kildarre DNA.

The world famous Irish National Stud has enjoyed a century long tradition of breeding winners from the turn of the twentieth century through Derbys, and classic races across Ireland and England including a visit by Queen Elizabeth II in 2011.

The renowned Japanese Gardens provide comfort to the soul for the past century, the legacy of a brewing fortune where the Life of Man is symbollised in the gardens and enjoyed by thousands of visitors every year.

Providing further spiritual nourishment is St Brigids Cathedral, a restored Norman cathedral most likely occupies the site of the original pagan shrine to the goddess Brigid and the later early Christian foundation and church of St. Brigid. Built with both war and peace in mind

Kildare is fast evolving into a prime suburbia, situated just outside Dublin, with charming towns like Maynooth and Kildare town. If you’re thinking of a weekend stay amongst the Lily Whites, how about the luxurious Carton House Hotel or The K Club.

Ice House Mayo

Ice House Mayo

Welcome to the Ice House on Luxury Hotels Ireland A surprising retreat, perched on the edge of the River Moy in Co. Mayo. Lovingly restored from its historic status as a 19th Century ‘Ice Store’, the Hotel is a member of Ireland’s Blue Book of Irish Country Houses and enjoys the sort of unfussed, modern panache expected of a contemporary rustic retreat, two centuries later. Originally called ‘The Iceland Cottage’ or ‘Iceland House’ and strategically positioned on the Moy Estuary – which subsequently became the principal sea-port of Ireland. At the beginning of the 19th Century, the Moy Fishery Company was founded and salmon weirs built at the falls with great quantities of fish caught and shipped on to Dublin or Liverpool. Such activities required the importation of a great deal of ice (and a year round production of beer to quench the thirsty locals). Ice House The Ice House itself was constructed in 1859 serving dual residential and cold storage purposes. Whether you want to relax with enough ice in a tall glass or listen to tall stories around Achill Island, in some of the drinking establishments of Westport, Louisburgh and the other welcoming towns dotted around Mayo, a stay at the Ice House will definitely defrost...
