The hotel was founded in 1824 by joining three adjacent townhouses overlooking St Stephen’s Green.

One of the hotel’s more infamous guests was Alois Hitler, Jr, the half brother of Adolf Hitler, who worked in the hotel while in Dublin in the early 20th century.

Notably in 1922, the hotel played a very important part in the founding of the Irish nation when the Irish Constitution was drafted in room 112, now known as The Constitution Room.

The Shelbourne lies at the epicentre of Dublin.
