In a fit of midsummer madness, the city of the tribes puts on a wonderful showcase every summer, setting the highest of yardsticks for other arts festivals to aspire to.

For over thirty years, local and international artists produce and present an amazing programme of theatre, spectacle, dance, visual arts, music, literature and comedy involving hundreds of performers.

One of the festival highlights is the annual Macnas Parade which bursts into life along the city streets, visual and audio entertainment for kids of all ages.

Something for everyone with popular, contemporary, jazz, world, classical and trad music, indoor and outdoor theatre, visual arts, dance, talks, discussions, family events and comedy.

Past participants have included David Gray, Blondie, Rich Hall, Joni Mitchell, Henri Matisse, Tommy Tiernan The Abbey Theatre, Druid Theatre Company and the Bristol Old Vic among others.
