Frank McCourt's recollection of his poverty stricken
Limerick childhood in rain sodden, Catholic-guilt-ridden, poverty brought first in novel form to world audiences and told in poetic form in McCourt's best selling and award winning novel, makes the transition to screen in the movie of the same name. Drink, rain, poverty, rain, religion, drink, rain, you get the picture though McCourt's capacity to build his own path out of the trap for himself (and later some of his family) in the US, is an epic tale of success for the underdog. Worth a read (bring an umbrella if watching on screen).
