The Ritz-Carlton Wicklow

Powerscourt Estate is situated in the mountains of Wicklow on 1000 acres and was an important strategic site for the Anglo-Normans who came to Ireland in the 12th century. By 1300 a castle had been built there occupied by the Power family, though the estate changed hands many times over the centuries.

In the 18th century, a magnificent mansion was built around the shell of the original castle though alas much of this was burnt in a fire in 1974 requiring a complete regeneration of the building to what it is today including the ballroom.

The estate is renowned for its gardens which reflect strong European mid nineteenth century influences though they do contain a Japanese garden.

Today the 5 star luxury estate houses a Gordan Ramsey restautrant with sweeping views of the Wicklow countryside.
